Bottom line
The sleeper story is that M800, their next-gen chip with 20-25% better performance, is ramping much slower than the hype suggests, with management adding qualifiers like 'modest base' that weren't there last quarter. The record revenue headline is a head-fake built on one-time NXP licensing; strip that out and you have 15% growth with deteriorating margins and a systems business down 38% YoY. The binding constraint is reader adoption, not tag demand, which explains why systems revenue keeps declining despite endpoint IC strength. Management admits the FCF bonanza ends next quarter: 'favorable working capital trends to normalize in the second half.' My view changes if M800 exceeds 20% of mix by Q4 or systems returns to growth.

The 30-second version

  • The M800 ramp is the real story but volumes are still 'modest'
  • Record revenue of $102.5M masks systems weakness down 38% YoY
  • Free cash flow of $44M looks phenomenal until you realize it's one-time working capital
