Bottom line
The sleeper story is that channel inventory isn't a temporary wobble but a structural shift: partners are permanently maintaining higher inventory for tariff hedging, making destocking impossible. The Street sees Q2's 26% sequential growth as recovery, but strip out the $17M licensee payment and organic growth is an anemic 4%. The binding constraint isn't demand or tariffs; it's that Impinj has lost control of their channel, with partners dictating inventory levels and playing suppliers against each other. Management admitted: 'multiple pull-in, push-out, cancellation, and bookings requests all in the same quarter.' My view changes if Q2 shows real organic endpoint IC growth above 10% QoQ excluding the payment.

The 30-second version

  • Channel inventory isn't clearing; partners are ADDING safety stock for 'geographic optionality' as tariff whiplash continues
  • The $17M licensee payment masks underlying weakness: organic revenue actually DOWN 19% sequentially
  • Food opportunity that was 'one or both ramping in 2026' just became vaguer: 'We're in early days'
