Bottom line
The sleeper story is that DRAM/NAND input cost inflation just showed up inside the HDD cost structure for the first time, softening the cost-per-terabyte trajectory right as management stopped giving its usual OCF/CapEx breakdown. The obvious headline, a 55% revenue beat and a 69% guide, is real, but it's being carried by pricing (ASP/TB +28%) rather than unit growth, and the binding constraint is still heads and media manufacturing capacity, explicitly not unit capacity, per management's own words: 'the CapEx is going to head in media and factory automation and not to expanding our unit capacity'. The most revealing moment was Kris's non-answer on the competitive exabyte growth gap: 'we're only guiding one quarter at a time'. My view changes if next quarter's call restores the OCF/CapEx and segment margin disclosures and if high bandwidth drives move from 'nascent' back to a specific customer count and priced product.

The 30-second version

  • DRAM/NAND inflation just cracked the cost-down story, and the cash flow disclosure got quietly thinner in the same breath
  • Beat-and-raise headline is real, but pricing is doing the heavy lifting, not units, and management won't commit to closing the exabyte gap to peers
  • High bandwidth drives regressed from a quantified product story to vague optionality
