Bottom line
WDC just locked in $4B+ of hyperscale revenue through mid-2026 with actual POs, not just handshakes, while the market frets about tariffs that don't even apply to their Southeast Asian production. The real story isn't the headline 40% gross margins; it's that they finally solved the 11-disk yield problem that's plagued them for years and can't build capacity fast enough to meet demand. The binding constraint is physical production capacity, not demand, not pricing, not technology; they literally admitted they 'would be challenged to fulfill' orders even if customers doubled them. 'We now have long-term agreements extending through the first half of calendar year 2026 with two of our largest customers,' but only two customers removes concentration risk. My view changes if enterprise recovers or if they announce capacity expansion, because right now they're a rocket ship with the throttle physically limited.

The 30-second version

  • The sleeper: They signed 2 hyperscale LTAs through 1H26 with actual POs attached, creating the first real revenue floor in years
  • Record 40.1% gross margins while everyone obsesses over tariffs that don't even apply (yet)
  • 11-disk platform shipped 800K units with 'very high yields' after years of 'yield challenges' narrative
