Bottom line
The sleeper story is FREYR admitting defeat on their novel 24M technology and pivoting to conventional licensed tech, essentially becoming a capital-intensive commodity producer chasing IRA subsidies rather than a technology innovator. The market sees a battery startup hitting milestones; I see a company abandoning its core strategy after burning through $500M+. The binding constraint isn't technology validation anymore, it's whether anyone will fund a me-too conventional battery plant in Georgia. Management's telling quote: 'conventional technology track will end up being the first opportunity for production', completely reversing years of 24M evangelism. My view changes if they actually produce cells at commercial yields this quarter, but 'hours or days away' sounds like 'the check is in the mail'.

The 30-second version

  • The conventional technology pivot is the real story, not the 24M delays
  • CQP automation milestone slipping into final weeks of Q2 while cash burn improves
  • Giga Arctic's $225M white elephant signals massive capital misallocation
