Bottom line
The sleeper story isn't the 17%/18% aftermarket and OEM prints everyone will cheer tonight, it's that the dollar magnitude of TDG's guidance raise shrank by roughly two-thirds quarter over quarter ($150M/$100M versus $420M/$210M) even as management kept the same confident tone. The obvious headline, 'another beat and raise, Middle East conflict a non-issue,' is real, but the binding constraint this quarter wasn't demand, it was regulatory: the DOJ blocked Stellent outright, and when pressed on the standalone performance of the two most recently acquired businesses, Mike Lisman wouldn't give a number, just 'it doesn't materially change the percentage growth that we saw'. That's the classic scope-shift away from a quantifiable answer. My view changes if management quantifies JetParts/Victor Sierra standalone growth next quarter, if the guidance-raise magnitude reaccelerates rather than continuing to shrink, or if Princeton Izant clears DOJ review cleanly given the Stellent precedent.

The 30-second version

  • The beat-and-raise engine is quietly downshifting
  • Aftermarket 'acceleration' is really an OEM and defense story in disguise
  • A new reporting seam just opened on JetParts/Victor Sierra, and management won't quantify it
