Bottom line
The headline is a clean beat-and-raise with 13 straight quarters of gross margin expansion and a free cash flow record, but the real story is that the binding constraint has quietly flipped from demand to internal supply: units are flat, heads and media content is up 15-20% YoY inside the box, and Gianluca just admitted the pricing spike is partly because 'the gap between supply and demand is now a little bit bigger than a few quarters ago'. Meanwhile the $1.1 trillion RPO metric that anchored last quarter's demand narrative simply vanished, and when pushed on the one genuinely new AI angle, KV cache attach rates, management conceded 'I think we're still trying to factor that in', a step back from last quarter's confident 'huge benefit to our business'. My view changes if next quarter's incremental gross margin gets reconfirmed with a hard number above 70%, RPO or an equivalent demand metric reappears, or the price/exabyte growth rate decelerates back toward the historical mid-single-digit range, any of which would tell us whether this quarter's beat was structural or a scarcity-driven sugar high.

The 30-second version

  • RPO, last quarter's signature demand-visibility metric, just disappeared
  • The 'beat and raise' is partly a scarcity premium, not pure pricing power
  • When pushed on agentic AI/KV cache attach rates, management punted to FY29-30
