Bottom line
The sleeper story is G-SIB math making JPM's strongest business self-defeating: while Markets drove the quarter with fixed income up 21%, the $20B additional capital requirement by 2028 creates what Barnum called 'significant disincentive' to grow exactly where they're winning. The AI cash tool isn't innovation, it's JPM cannibalizing their own deposit margins before competitors do, with Dimon admitting 'it may squeeze some margin somewhere.' The binding constraint isn't demand or capacity, it's regulatory capital efficiency - they're literally being penalized for growing their best businesses. Most revealing quote: Dimon saying they'll 'find ways to serve clients properly and reduce the G-SIB charge, which is usually called arbitrage' - translation, expect shadow banking moves. My view changes if G-SIB reproposal gets materially modified or if deposit migration from the AI tool exceeds their 'very small subset' expectation.
