Bottom line
The sleeper story here isn't the data-center blowout everyone will write about tomorrow, it's that OCS ramp visibility just got worse (from 'two to three quarters' to 'the next several quarters') even as management proactively shot down CPO yield rumors nobody asked about, a classic tell that the market's AI-capex skepticism is louder behind the scenes than the Q&A suggests. The obvious headline, NSE +69.2% YoY and a raise to 27.1% operating margin guidance, is real, but a meaningful chunk of both the Q4 beat and the Q1 guide is tariff-refund arithmetic, not organic leverage. The binding constraint isn't demand, it's execution bandwidth across Spirent (which just declined sequentially), OCS, and CPO, three programs still described in POs and 'healthy demand' rather than dollars. Management's own words cut through the enthusiasm: 'I have POs to show for that' is not a number, it's a narrative. My view changes if next quarter's OCS commentary reverts to a specific quarter-count timeline and management discloses even a rough CPO backlog figure; until then, I'd trim into strength and watch the Spirent/OCS execution cadence closely.

The 30-second version

  • The beat is real, but the margin story leans on one-time tariff refunds and the OCS timeline just quietly got vaguer
  • NSE +69.2% YoY and a raised Q1 guide is the headline, but the real constraint is execution bandwidth across Spirent/OCS/CPO, not demand
  • No AR, DSO, or backlog disclosure in either quarter, and CFFO is being driven by 'timing of working capital' two quarters running
