Bottom line
The sleeper story everyone's missing: TLN just went into stealth mode on their development pipeline after getting burned by public speculation around Montour, which could actually be bullish if they're protecting real deals in progress. The obvious headline is strong Q4 results and reaffirmed 2026 guidance, but the real story is management's strategic pivot to opacity on growth projects. Gas commodity risk management is becoming their key differentiator in large data center contracts, not just generation capacity. As CEO Mac McFarland said: 'Short-term hurdles do not define long-term success, how you respond to them does.' My view changes if they fail to announce a major data center contract within six months despite all the hyperscaler CapEx growth they're citing.

The 30-second version

  • TLN quietly stopped discussing development projects in public after Montour County commissioners rejected their plans
  • 2026 guidance reaffirmed despite winter strength, but excludes Cornerstone deal closing
  • Gas commodity risk management becomes the real battleground for large data center contracts
