Bottom line
The sleeper story isn't the AI pipeline, it's that net retention rate quietly disappeared from the call after being touted at 107 last quarter, right as management leaned harder on absolute counts like '600 customers' and 'dozens of deals' instead of rates. The obvious headline, record bookings and a raised FY27 guide, is real, but AI remains exactly as immaterial as last quarter: 'Still immaterial. Still very small, very early innings' is nearly a word-for-word repeat of last quarter's 'not materially contributing... not significant in the guide'. The binding constraint isn't demand, it's conversion capacity: Todd himself admitted 'we don't have four years of history on conversion', which means the 'record pipeline' language is still unquantified. My view changes if next quarter's call restates NRR with a number, or if management discloses actual dollar ACV for Okta for AI agents instead of 'dozens.'

The 30-second version

  • Net retention rate just vanished from the call, and nobody asked why
  • Record bookings headline is real, but AI is still a rounding error and management says so twice
  • The binding constraint is pipeline conversion capacity, not demand, and Todd admitted it on the call
