Bottom line
The sleeper story is chemistry's 12% organic growth providing gross margin support while semiconductor remains dead in the water, yet management won't quantify the revenue split to let us model this properly. The Street sees 'semiconductor stability' but it's actually just inventory management and hope; NAND has been 'historically low' for six quarters now with no greenfield investments in sight. The binding constraint is that OpEx is exploding higher by $60-80M annually while revenue is flat, making their 40% incremental margin promise mathematically impossible. Most revealing quote: 'AI servers... that's still 10%, 15% of the entire IC substrate market' which means 85% of their packaging business has no AI tailwind. My view changes if they provide actual NAND order magnitude or world-class optics revenue, but the fact they're hiding both tells you everything.

The 30-second version

  • Chemistry outperformance at 12% organic growth is masking semiconductor weakness; this is the real stabilization story
  • NAND 'green shoots' narrative is actually inventory burn, not demand recovery
  • OpEx stepping up $60-80M annually while revenue flat; 40% incremental margin promise looks increasingly unrealistic
