Bottom line
The sleeper story is that MKS just pre-announced a 2026 chemistry consumables boom that nobody's modeling: four quarters of record equipment orders with 6-12 month qual cycles means $50M+ of high-margin recurring revenue hits just as the Street expects a semi downturn. Yes, Q3 beat on E&P strength, but the real tell is management stopped disclosing chemistry-specific growth rates, the metric that matters most for margins. The binding constraint isn't demand, it's their inability to track where AI revenue is actually flowing ('difficult for us to tell if it's going to particular parts of the AI food chain'). Management admitted 'we're shipping a lot of that equipment and a lot of the chemistry that goes with it will help us get to those longer-term targets.' My view changes if Q4 chemistry revenue grows less than mid-single digits, confirming the metric disappeared because it's decelerating.

The 30-second version

  • Chemistry equipment orders signal a massive 2026 chemistry consumables wave that nobody's modeling correctly
  • NAND upgrade party is over for now but semi still grew double digits
  • Management stopped giving chemistry-specific growth rates and switched to talking about 'E&P overall'
