Bottom line
The sleeper story is equipment orders finally materializing for AI applications after twelve months of chemistry-only growth, validating the Atotech thesis but at lower margins than expected. Wall Street sees another 'bouncing along the bottom' quarter with solid execution, but they're missing that management just memory-holed operating cash flow and working capital metrics while celebrating FCF margins. The binding constraint isn't demand or technology, it's NAND staying dead while they burn photonics margins to buy their way into lithography. Most revealing quote: 'lead times have pulled in to normal historic levels' which means they have zero visibility beyond 30 days. My view changes if NAND shows any life or if they quantify the photonics revenue opportunity with real numbers instead of 'long-term' handwaving.

The 30-second version

  • Equipment orders for AI-related PCB applications finally showing life after 12 months of chemistry-only growth
  • Semi bouncing along bottom for another quarter, but photonics wins validating the M&A thesis
  • Operating cash flow mysteriously absent from the prepared remarks despite 'strong' $141M FCF generation
