Bottom line
The sleeper story is that IREN is burning cash at an alarming rate despite record headline numbers, with operating cash flow flat while they burned $243M in cash last quarter alone. Yes, they're posting record $148M revenue and $24M profits, but the binding constraint is clearly customer acquisition, not infrastructure: they have 2.9GW of power but zero signed AI colocation deals after months of 'advanced negotiations.' Management's revealing quote: 'We're in advanced stage of negotiation with several at the moment, and we're just working through it' which is banker-speak for 'deals aren't closing.' My view changes if they announce a 100MW+ anchor tenant for Horizon 1 with actual contract terms, not more 'meaningful dialogue.'

The 30-second version

  • The real story: IREN is quietly pivoting away from mining expansion to become an AI infrastructure play
  • Record $148M revenue masks the binding constraint: customer contracts, not capacity
  • Cash flow quality deteriorating: CFFO flat at $54M while net income jumped 28% to $24M
