Bottom line
The market will cheer the $128.1M record adjusted income and the wild $626M loan growth swing, but the real story is that the 'stable' 4.51% margin is being held up by one-time accretion and SBIC gains while core margin actually slipped to 4.47%, and a previously transparent disclosure (CCFG private credit) went dark this quarter. The binding constraint here isn't demand, it's management's own forecasting visibility: Allison himself admits he doesn't do a very good job predicting loans and has now stopped trying, which means the next print is a coin flip between another blowout Florida quarter and the payoff wave Kevin Hester warns is building, with the gap now higher than it was 90 days ago. My view changes if Q3 shows core margin (ex event income) stabilizing above 4.45% and the ~$100M Texas credit finally resolves on the timeline management keeps promising and keeps missing.

The 30-second version

  • The 'stable 4.51% margin' is an optical illusion built on one-time items
  • Loan growth 'swing' of $626M is a forecasting admission of defeat, not a demand story
  • A disclosure quietly vanished: CCFG private credit exposure, and the Texas credit's resolution clock kept slipping
