Bottom line
The sleeper story is that GNRC just started paying a hyperscale customer in equity, up to 1.7 million warrant shares against $8 billion of future purchases, while simultaneously introducing a second unnamed 'Hyperscaler One' customer whose 2028 upside just got a new conditionality clause it didn't have last quarter. The obvious headline, a record $1.29 billion quarter and a tripling backlog to $4.5 billion, is real, but the binding constraint has quietly shifted from demand to execution bandwidth: industrial distributor lead times stretched to 45-50 weeks and that same channel's shipments actually declined YoY this quarter due to the Beaverdam relocation. Aaron Jagdfeld's own words capture the tension best: 'Hyperscaler One has told us that they'll go higher in 2028 if we can demonstrate execution in 2027', that's a conditional promise, not a locked commitment. My view changes if next quarter management cleanly reconciles the Amazon/Hyperscaler One naming with specific contracted dollar figures by customer, and if industrial distributor lead times actually normalize to the promised Q1 2027 timeline; if either slips, the backlog math becomes harder to trust.

The 30-second version

  • GNRC is now paying for revenue with equity, and the backlog bridge doesn't fully reconcile
  • The $4.5B backlog headline is real, but the binding constraint just showed up in the industrial distributor channel
  • Power Micro vanished and Hyperscaler One's 2028 upside got a new 'if'
