Bottom line
The sleeper story is Enercon solving the industry packaging bottleneck while competitors remain constrained - this is margin expansion disguised as capacity expansion. Yes, data center backlog doubled to $700M, but the real signal is the industrial/telecom/rental recovery that's happening alongside AI demand. The binding constraint is no longer Generac's capacity but their suppliers' ability to scale alternators and cooling packages for $2-3B in potential volume. As Jagdfeld said, 'we're going to need a bigger boat if we're going to win both accounts because that's not in our current capacity capability.' My view changes if they sign hyperscale contracts but can't maintain 50%+ gross margins due to supply chain inflation or if residential margin expansion proves temporary in Q2.

The 30-second version

  • SLEEPER STORY: Enercon packaging acquisition is solving the industry bottleneck, not just growing Generac
  • Data center backlog doubled to $700M but the real signal is NON-hyperscale growth
  • Residential OpEx recalibration delivered 500 bps EBITDA margin expansion, but Q2 guide implies it's temporary
