Bottom line
The sleeper story everyone's missing: GNRC is building $1B+ of data center capacity based mostly on 'conversations' and 'pilot programs' with hyperscalers, not actual contracts. The $400M backlog is still co-locators, not the hyperscale prizes they're really betting on. Free cash flow collapsed 56% while they're burning cash on spec capacity expansion - that's the binding constraint. Management admits 'channel partner sentiment was negatively impacted' by their own product transitions, suggesting execution issues beyond weather. Aaron's most revealing quote: 'We don't have any of our traditional large megawatt products in that backlog at this point.' My view changes if they sign an actual hyperscaler contract or if home standby close rates quantifiably improve beyond the vague 'better than expected' claims.

The 30-second version

  • HYPERSCALER MUSIC STOPPING: They're pitching 'pilot programs' and 'successful completion' but zero actual contracts
  • DATA CENTER MATH DOESN'T ADD UP: Claims $1B+ domestic capacity by Q4 but can only point to $400M actual backlog
  • HOME STANDBY QUIETLY CRACKING: Dealer sentiment 'negatively impacted' and they blame 'transition to next-generation platform'
