Bottom line
The sleeper story is Barber Lake's surprise expansion to 800MW, which transforms it from a nice site to a potential hyperscale winner, but Softbank's exclusivity expiring in 3 days with radio silence suggests negotiations have stalled. The Street sees the 75% revenue growth and profitability return, but the binding constraint is now liquidity: $6M cash can't fund $200M of Black Pearl commitments without Bitcoin sales or dilutive financing. Tyler's tellingly defensive quote, 'while it will take time to finalize our path for Barber Lake's development, we have never been more excited,' is the kind of enthusiasm that appears when deals aren't closing. My view changes if they announce a signed HPC lease with a creditworthy tenant at double-digit cap rates, which would unlock the debt financing to solve everything.

The 30-second version

  • The sleeper: Barber Lake just went from a 300MW site to potentially 800MW with 2029 expansion, fundamentally changing the HPC economics
  • Bitcoin mining profitability hit $150/MWh but management is pivoting hard to HPC despite the economics
  • The red flag: Softbank exclusivity expires in 3 days with zero deal announcement, suggesting negotiations aren't going as smoothly as the 'steady drumbeat of interest' narrative
