Bottom line
The sleeper story is that wireless service revenue growth, the metric underpinning the whole 'inflection' narrative, has quietly slipped from a 'second half' promise to a Q4-only promise, even as net adds and EBITDA margin hit records. The obvious headline, 406,000 postpaid phone net adds and a 40.2% record EBITDA margin, is real and impressive, but the binding constraint going forward is whether AI Connect's approximately $4 billion backlog and the new mmWave FWA bet convert into 2027 cash flow without the margin specificity management offered just one quarter ago ('margins equal to or greater than our existing margin structures' became simply 'attractive margins'). Dan Schulman's own framing is telling: 'This is a multi-year story, and we are just getting started', classic time-shifting language that defers accountability to the 2027 outlook they've promised for the next call. My view changes if Q4 wireless service revenue actually prints positive YoY as promised, if management restores the FWA/fiber and prepaid granularity next quarter, or if they attach a real margin number to the AI Connect backlog instead of 'attractive.'

The 30-second version

  • Wireless service revenue growth keeps getting pushed to 'next quarter' while everyone cheers the net-add headline
  • Blowout net adds (406K, +820% YoY) and record margins (40.2% EBITDA) are the obvious story, but the real constraint is converting AI Connect backlog into cash
  • Prepaid and the FWA/fiber net-add split quietly vanished from the script
