Bottom line
The sleeper story is Verizon stumbling into becoming an AI infrastructure play, with capacity-constrained dark fiber assets suddenly worth billions to desperate hyperscalers. The Street sees improving churn and guidance raises, but they're missing that Simplicity adoption is failing (base migration 67% below plan) and receivables disclosures vanished entirely this quarter. The binding constraint isn't competition, it's their own customer base rejecting their new pricing model while management celebrates ARPA gains on new customers only. Most revealing quote: 'The demand for these fiber routes... is ultimately limited and that capacity and pricing is, we're going to have to think about how we handle the demand.' Translation: they have pricing power they didn't know existed. My view changes if Simplicity migration accelerates above 50% of target or if Q3 receivables quality deteriorates.

The 30-second version

  • AI infrastructure dark fiber deals worth 'multiple billions' are the real story, not wireless
  • Consumer postpaid churn at 84bps masks that Simplicity is cannibalizing high-ARPU legacy plans
  • They stopped reporting DSO and accounts receivable growth rates
