Bottom line
The sleeper story: Aviation's productivity crisis needs 5-7 years to fix, not quarters, with 50% of workers too green to handle out-of-station work that comes with supplier delays. The Street sees 'temporary' supply chain issues, but management just admitted it's a structural workforce problem requiring nearly a decade to solve. The binding constraint isn't parts, it's people: specifically, people who know how to build planes when components arrive out of sequence. Lisa Atherton's tell: 'It takes about five to seven years to generate an employee that has all the capabilities.' My view changes if they report even 10% improvement in units per labor hour, but they conspicuously won't give that metric.

The 30-second version

  • Aviation's $150M margin opportunity requires 5-7 years of workforce seasoning, not supply chain magic
  • Bell self-funding MV-75 through Q3 absent Army's $350M reprogramming
  • Industrial sale process quietly launched while aviation can't clear its own backlog
