Bottom line
The sleeper story isn't the $1B cloud milestone-it's that Atlassian cracked AI unit economics at scale while competitors burn cash on inference costs. Gross margins improved while delivering 5M Robo MAU, proving their consumption-based model works. The binding constraint isn't demand (RPO accelerating for third straight quarter), it's migration execution capacity as they absorb massive DC-to-cloud shifts. 'We are able to deliver those 5 million Robo seats and continue to improve gross margin' is the quote that separates them from the AI pack. My view changes if cloud growth decelerates below 20% or if they start breaking out AI costs separately, which would signal unit economics pressure.

The 30-second version

  • The sleeper story: AI consumption costs are being absorbed at scale
  • The $1B cloud quarter obscures the real win: RPO acceleration for third straight quarter
  • DC guidance telegraphs margin pressure despite the buyback theater
