Bottom line
The sleeper story is that Reserved, last quarter's marquee product, evaporated from the call entirely while a muted ads recovery and a stalling ~40% bidable mix get dressed up as momentum. The headline beat-and-raise (revenue in line, subs +1M, buybacks accelerating to $1.1B YTD) is real but obscures that MAU and premium revenue growth both decelerated, and the binding constraint remains monetizing the agentic/AI vision into hard dollars, not demand. Gustav's own hedge says it best: 'it's very early' on the taste model even as he claims it's 'already on track to add billions of listening hours per year', a classic time-shift that should worry anyone pricing in near-term AI monetization. My view changes if next quarter Reserved and active advertiser metrics reappear with strong numbers, and if ads actually crosses into double-digit growth in Q4 as 'continue our progress towards' implies rather than slipping again.

The 30-second version

  • Reserved just vanished from the story
  • Ads 'inflection' quietly became 'progress towards'
  • FCF fell sequentially while they tout the TTM absolute
