Bottom line
The sleeper story is that Solaris just transformed into a 25% FCF yield melting ice cube: capex collapsing to maintenance levels unlocks massive cash generation, but they've completely stopped discussing unit economics because the Top Fill/AutoBlend strategy isn't getting pricing. Wall Street sees 'stable and cash generative' but the binding constraint is that their technology differentiation has been commoditized, leaving them with flat pricing power in a market where sand suppliers are merging for scale. Management's tell: 'they actually lower their costs even in a rising cost environment with us' means they're selling efficiency, not value. My view changes if Q1 shows contribution margin per system above $1.1M, proving they can extract value from the new technology.

The 30-second version

  • The real story: Free cash flow yield hits 25% on maintenance capex model while Street fixates on flat activity
  • Top fill systems deployed but management went silent on pricing and margins
  • They stopped breaking out Top Fill economics and now bundle everything together
