Bottom line
The sleeper story is that SEI is becoming a third-party equipment broker, not an infrastructure owner, using expensive rentals to chase growth while their actual owned EBITDA per megawatt is deteriorating. Yes, they tripled capacity to 600MW, but when Kyle admits 'some of the re-rented assets will phase out' while refusing to quantify the mix, you know the unit economics are broken. The binding constraint isn't demand or equipment availability; it's that their single AI customer owns 53% of their capacity and they can't diversify despite months of 'numerous discussions.' Most revealing quote: 'It's going to be difficult quarter-over-quarter to get too granular' when asked about basic owned vs rented mix. My view changes if they sign a second 200MW+ data center customer or actually disclose owned capacity percentage.

The 30-second version

  • THE SLEEPER: They're re-renting third-party turbines to meet demand, crushing near-term margins while hiding fleet economics
  • The obvious 600MW milestone masks a dangerous dependency on a single JV customer representing 53% of total capacity
  • Logistics cash cow is deteriorating faster than guided: 10-15% Q3 volume decline plus fixed cost deleverage
