Bottom line
PepsiCo is a tariff refund story masquerading as a turnaround story: strip out the $0.07-$0.09 one-time benefit and this company missed the quarter and would be cutting guidance. The market sees 'volume recovery' but I see convenience channels collapsing with no fix beyond vague 'solutions' while management burns cash on affordability investments that aren't working. The binding constraint is North America has become structurally disadvantaged versus private label and management is out of pricing power. Ramon's tell: 'The consumer is worse than what we had anticipated.' My view changes if convenience store volumes actually inflect positive in Q3 with concrete data, not three-week cherry-picks.

The 30-second version

  • THE SLEEPER: Tariff refunds of $0.07-$0.09 EPS are the only reason guidance holds; without them, PEP would be cutting
  • Volume 'recovery' is a mirage: convenience stores are cratering as gas prices spike
  • International is now 67% of beverage volumes and carrying the company while North America bleeds
