Bottom line
The sleeper story is MACOM hit a physical capacity wall in photodetectors just as 1.6T is exploding, and they're scrambling to qualify a new fab. The Street sees 35-40% data center growth and celebrates, but the binding constraint is indium phosphide capacity at Ann Arbor, not demand. Management buried the lead: 'Our Ann Arbor fab is approaching maximum capacity.' That $55M satellite contract slipping is the canary; aerospace customers don't accept 'system changes' excuses unless something's wrong. My view changes if Mass fab yields match Ann Arbor by Q2.

The 30-second version

  • The photodetector capacity crisis nobody's talking about: Ann Arbor fab is maxed, Mass fab qualification rushed
  • Data center growth raised to 35-40% YoY but book-to-bill dropped to 1.3x from stratospheric October
  • That $55M satellite contract just slipped into 2026 with vague 'system changes' excuse
