Bottom line
The sleeper story is that MRNA is structurally a $4B annual cash burn machine with 11 quarters of runway, making every binary catalyst existential. The Street sees August 5 flu PDUFA as the next leg up, but management's hedging on INT melanoma interim ('commercially valuable product maybe only in final analysis') suggests they know the hazard ratio degraded from Phase 2. The binding constraint isn't pipeline or science, it's cash runway versus time to revenue; they need INT or flu to work soon or they'll be drawing the credit facility by late 2027. Management's tell: 'We designed the study to evaluate the full commercial profile,' translation: we powered for multiple looks because we're not confident in early success. My view changes if INT interim shows HR<0.65 or flu gets premium pricing confirmed.

The 30-second version

  • MRNA quietly burning $4B cash annually while INT melanoma interim might not be as binary as Street thinks
  • The obvious flu PDUFA on August 5th masks the real story: Europe reopening in 2027
  • Norovirus vaccine failed interim efficacy, now needs fourth cohort after burning two seasons
