Bottom line
The hyperscaler sugar high is ending: MCO already hit their full-year hyperscaler forecast in H1, meaning the highest-margin issuance driver decelerates sharply from here, which explains why they guided Q4 revenue flat despite 'strong fundamentals.' The headline 34% transaction revenue growth masks that it's the wrong mix, FIG and data center deals yield less, hence no revenue guide raise despite bumping issuance outlook. The binding constraint is mix, not volume: they can rate all the data center deals they want but frequent issuer economics mean margin compression if this becomes the dominant flow. 'We're moderating our assumptions for hyperscaler issuance through the second half' is management admitting the party's over. My view changes if private credit accelerates back above 50% growth or if they quantify meaningful MCP revenue contribution.

The 30-second version

  • The AI infrastructure story is ALREADY BAKED: hyperscalers pulled forward their entire 2026 issuance into H1
  • Record $2 trillion issuance drives 34% transaction revenue growth, but it's the wrong mix
  • MA's new CEO has been in seat 5 weeks and is already 'moving with pace', code for major changes coming
