Bottom line
The sleeper story is China restrictions becoming a margin tailwind - the $600M revenue hit forces premium customer mix while competitors absorb tariff costs, structurally improving Lam's profitability. The obvious headline is record margins and AI momentum, but what matters more is management quantifying the AI infrastructure multiplier ($8B WFE per $100B datacenter spend) and already having production wins ramping. The binding constraint is clean room space, not demand - Tim explicitly called out physical infrastructure limits in NAND, which is code for pricing power as equipment demand exceeds buildable capacity. Most revealing quote: 'capacity additions to meet rising bit demand may be needed sooner than previously thought' - that's management admitting their February assumptions were too conservative. My view changes if China revenue doesn't normalize below 30% as promised or if the AI infrastructure conversion rate proves overstated.

The 30-second version

  • SLEEPER STORY: China restrictions creating margin mix windfall while supply chain gets premium pricing power
  • AI infrastructure math is real: $8B WFE per $100B datacenter spend with Lam capturing high-30s share
  • NAND upgrade acceleration is pulling forward capacity constraints - clean room space becoming the binding constraint
