Bottom line
The sleeper story is the mainframe becoming an AI inference powerhouse - Krishna's reveal that Code Assistant users are growing MIPS 3x faster is huge for the Z hardware cycle sustainability. The market will celebrate software acceleration to 10%+, but organic growth actually decelerated across most segments. The binding constraint is hardware supply chain disruption hitting RHEL, a new concern that wasn't there 90 days ago. Most telling quote: 'This will be the last quarter we report GenAI book of business' - classic metric retirement after hitting $12.5B round number. My view changes if Z AI inferencing revenue becomes separately disclosed or if RHEL stabilizes by Q3.

  • SLEEPER STORY: The mainframe is becoming an AI inferencing monster
  • Software growth decelerated from 11% to 8% despite Confluent acquisition
