Bottom line
The sleeper story is HUT's brilliant optionality play: they locked in 15 exahash of miners at pre-rally prices through a hosting deal, giving them a free call option worth $200M+ if Bitcoin sustains these levels. The market sees 'another Bitcoin miner upgrading fleet' but misses that HUT essentially got paid $30M to receive this option. The binding constraint isn't power or capital, it's their complete lack of signed AI customers despite 18 months of 'active discussions.' Most revealing quote: 'As things materialize and become definitive, we'll open to the market' which is management-speak for 'we have nothing firm.' My view changes if they announce even one named AI customer with committed megawatts.

The 30-second version

  • The 15 exahash Vega hosting deal is actually a Trojan horse for owning 24 EH/s at market bottom
  • AI pipeline exploded to 6 GW under evaluation but zero signed deals means they're playing catch-up
  • Energy costs collapsed 28% in two quarters despite ancient fleet, proving operational excellence matters more than hardware
