Bottom line
Corning is becoming the Nvidia of glass, with their AI datacenter opportunity delivering 42% enterprise growth and proving the 10x density thesis is real money, not just slideware. The Street sees a cyclical optical recovery story, but this is actually a secular share gain as Corning locks up the high-value AI interconnect market with proprietary solutions competitors can't match. The binding constraint isn't demand, it's how fast hyperscalers can actually build these GPU clusters given power and real estate limits. Wendell admitted 'so far, what we're seeing is most of our variance has been upside variance,' which is as close to giddiness as you'll get from Corning management. My view changes if display margins compress below 25% when yen hedges roll off, killing the cash flow story.

The 30-second version

  • The sleeper: Enterprise optical is turning into an AI arms dealer, not just a cable supplier
  • The obvious: Beat-and-raise quarter driven by AI connectivity boom
  • The risk nobody's talking about: Display price negotiations are still unresolved
