Bottom line
The sleeper story is that roughly half of this quarter's guidance raise is unexplained trading and optimization gains, not organic growth, with management conceding on the call 'we don't always know exactly where it's coming from'. The obvious headline, a $850 million guidance raise and a loaded growth project slate, is real, but the binding constraint isn't demand (which is abundant and well-documented via Hugh Brinson, South Mississippi, and hyperscaler contracts), it's capital discipline visibility: leverage and distribution growth targets quietly disappeared from the call the same quarter ET announced a $2.625 billion acquisition and a ~$7 billion 2027 capex placeholder. My view changes if next quarter's formal 2027 capex guidance reaffirms the 4-4.5x leverage target explicitly, and if the $1.5 billion optimization benefit proves attributable to structural, repeatable drivers rather than commodity volatility that reverses as flagged.

The 30-second version

  • Nearly half the guidance raise is unexplained trading gains, and management admits they can't tell you why
  • Beat-and-raise headline masks a sequential EBITDA and DCF dip
  • Leverage targets and Green Chile/Oracle regulatory fight both vanished from the script
