Bottom line
The sleeper story everyone's missing: DOW just got handed a structural cost advantage from the Middle East conflict that's worth $2B+ in Q2 alone, while their Transform program is about to either turbocharge margins or create a massive cash burn hole. The obvious headline is the PE pricing surge, but the real story is DOW's Americas footprint becoming the global swing supplier with 50% of ethylene/PE supply offline for 6-18 months. The binding constraint isn't demand, it's DOW's ability to execute the $1.5B transformation spend without blowing up their balance sheet before benefits materialize. As Fitterling said: 'We expect more potential upside to these projections than downside.' My view changes if April/May PE price increases don't stick or Transform benefits don't hit $400M in H2.

The 30-second version

  • Middle East conflict is DOW's stealth catalyst: 50% of global ethylene/PE supply offline
  • Transform to Outperform accelerating but cash burn timing is the tell
  • Sadara accounting change masks $400M annual equity loss run rate
