Financial quality
Bottom line
The sleeper story is BW cracking the steam turbine oligopoly to access a $3-5B market that was previously locked up by GE and Siemens, but the financial quality is deteriorating rapidly with backlog declines, dropped cash flow targets, and panic ATM reactivation. The Applied Digital $1.5B contract grabs headlines but won't contribute meaningfully until 2027, while the core business shows clear signs of stress beneath 'record' claims. The binding constraint isn't demand, it's working capital and execution capacity for a company that just had going concern warnings. 'We're using off-the-shelf designs requiring no engineering' is either the perfect setup or famous last words. My view changes if they secure the full Applied Digital NTP with upfront cash that covers working capital needs without further dilution.

The 30-second version

  • Applied Digital's $1.5B boiler order is BW's Nvidia moment, but the real story is they're bypassing turbine OEMs entirely
  • Record Parts & Services margins signal coal plants are running harder than management admits
  • ATM program quietly reactivated after 'pausing' it four days ago
