Bottom line
The sleeper story is that coal-to-gas conversions are the only real business here, with $50-400M projects in various stages while management distracts you with Brightloop hydrogen fantasies burning $7-10M quarterly with zero revenue. Yes, they 'beat' Q1 with $13.2M adjusted EBITDA, but Lou can't even state a cash flow number and they're selling businesses to pay debt. The binding constraint isn't demand, it's survival: they need those coal-to-gas contracts to close NOW or they run out of road. Kenny said 'we are confident that we've overcome the previous liquidity concern,' but selling assets to pay bills isn't overcoming anything. My view changes if they announce two $100M+ contracted coal-to-gas conversions with 2024 revenue start.

The 30-second version

  • Coal-to-gas conversions are the real growth engine, not hydrogen dreams
  • The 'beat' is fake: adjusted EBITDA margins expanded but cash flow is still negative
  • Brightloop hydrogen timeline just slipped again without saying so
