Bottom line
The sleeper story everyone's missing: APLD is burning $4.1M quarterly on empty data centers while their GPU depreciation runs at $138M annually, creating a death spiral that forced them to take NVIDIA's money and pause expansion. Yes, revenue grew 67%, but the hyperscaler lease that would fix everything just lost exclusivity after six months of 'finalizing', with Wes admitting 'we don't control the process.' The binding constraint isn't demand or technology, it's that they're a first-time vendor trying to close a Fortune 50 customer who typically takes 12-18 months and they're running out of cash to wait. 'We chose not to renew exclusivity' is the quote that says everything; you don't give up protection unless you've already lost leverage. My view changes if they announce a signed lease within 2 weeks, otherwise this is a company that bet everything on one customer who's clearly having second thoughts.

The 30-second version

  • The cloud GPU business is secretly hemorrhaging cash: $4.1M quarterly burn on empty data centers while depreciation kills the P&L
  • The hyperscaler lease everyone's waiting for just lost exclusivity, and Wes can't handicap timing anymore
  • NVIDIA just wrote them a check, but notice what they're NOT doing: deploying more GPUs
