Bottom line
The sleeper story everyone is missing: Tesla just announced the end of the car business as we know it. Vaibhav explicitly said 'vehicle as only the delivery mechanism' for FSD software - this isn't a car company anymore, it's a software company that happens to manufacture hardware. But the Hardware 3 rugpull is a massive credibility crisis affecting millions of customers who bought FSD based on promises now being broken. The binding constraint isn't demand or even production capacity - it's capital allocation. At $25B+ CapEx, they're burning through their $44B cash pile while admitting Optimus production is 'literally impossible to predict.' Most revealing quote: Elon shifted from confident million-unit targets to 'it will move as fast as the least lucky part in 10,000+ components.' My view changes if they provide specific ROI targets for the CapEx explosion and clear financing plans beyond vague 'bank conversations.'

The 30-second version

  • SLEEPER: Tesla went from FSD as a car feature to 'vehicle as only the delivery mechanism' for software
  • CapEx explosion to $25B+ signals desperation, not strength, despite the confidence
  • Hardware 3 owners just got rugpulled: no unsupervised FSD without costly retrofits
