Bottom line
The sleeper story is that Snap quietly swapped its profitability scoreboard: net income profitability path is now 'FCF per share', a metric buybacks can flatter independent of the business actually getting healthier, while net income itself got shoved to 'beginning 2027'. The obvious headline, 19% revenue growth and a beat-and-raise quarter, is real, but the binding constraint is cash conversion, not demand: EBITDA grew to $250M while FCF cratered to $121M, a conversion collapse nobody on the call interrogated. Evan's own words on Specs, that mass adoption is 'towards the end of the decade', undercut the September 16 hype cycle the stock is trading on. My view changes if Q3's FCF/EBITDA conversion snaps back above 80% and management re-discloses a hard North America DAU number instead of pivoting to Spotlight stats.

The 30-second version

  • The real story isn't the beat, it's the quiet demotion of net income
  • 19% revenue growth looks great, but FCF fell off a cliff versus EBITDA
  • North America DAU, the metric that mattered most last quarter, vanished from management's mouth this quarter
