Bottom line
The sleeper story everyone will miss: SMCI burned nearly $1 billion in operating cash flow while management spent the entire call talking about growth. This isn't a supply-constrained growth story, it's a liquidity crisis. Charles's admission that they'll 'control our revenue based on our cash flow' is the most honest thing said on the call. The $13 billion backlog headline masks the fact they lost half their large customers and are factoring receivables to stay liquid. Their binding constraint isn't NVIDIA allocation or production capacity - it's cash flow to fund working capital for these massive deals. Charles claimed their capacity could support '$100 billion range' but they can't even fund current growth without burning cash. My view changes if Q2 operating cash flow turns positive, but the 300 basis point margin guide down suggests they're still prioritizing revenue over profitability.

The 30-second version

  • The sleeper story: Cash flow from operations collapsed to NEGATIVE $918M while they talk growth
  • The revenue guidance raise masks a margin capitulation story
  • DCBBS pivot language regressed from 'will monetize' to 'hoping to be 20-30%'
