Bottom line
The street sees post-viral normalization but what's actually happening is self-inflicted platform destruction through algorithm changes that management badly miscalculated. The 'unforeseen monetization shortfall' isn't unforeseen, it's incompetence. They're now burning cash on AI moonshots (Reality, Build) while core U13 monetization collapses and they can't even guide two quarters out. The binding constraint isn't market maturity, it's management's inability to predict their own platform changes' impact. 'The bookings impact of this trade-off on younger users was greater than we anticipated.' My view changes if Q3 bookings beat the midpoint of guidance, but with discovery algo still destroying monetization, that's unlikely.

The 30-second version

  • Discovery algorithm changes are crushing U13 monetization far worse than management expected, creating a 14-18% bookings decline in Q3
  • After growing 43% in Q1, bookings collapsed to 8% growth in Q2 and guide negative for Q3
  • Management abandoned full-year guidance entirely while burning cash on AI moonshots
