Bottom line
The sleeper story is data center revenue pulled forward a full year to FY27 - this transforms QCOM from a mobile company with diversification experiments into a legitimate data center player much faster than expected. The obvious headline is strong Q4 beat and guidance, but the real story is they're successfully executing the diversification strategy with automotive hitting $1B, XR 'significantly ahead' of targets, and now data center becoming material in FY27 not FY28. The binding constraint is execution bandwidth - they're simultaneously scaling automotive production, ramping data center products, and defending mobile share against Samsung's renewed push. Most revealing quote: 'It's all going to be about generating the most amount of tokens with the least amount of power, and that's our right to play' - Amon is positioning for the inference economy, not just training. My view changes if the IoT deceleration (24% to 7% YoY) spreads to other segments or if the hyperscaler discussions don't materialize into actual revenue by mid-2026.

The 30-second version

  • Data center revenue pulled forward a full year - this is no longer a FY28 story
  • Samsung baseline assumption drops to 75% share for Galaxy S26 - the 100% S25 win was an outlier
  • XR revenue 'significantly ahead' of $2B FY29 target driven by Meta smart glasses demand
