Bottom line
Netflix is hitting a quality wall where extracting more value from flat engagement requires increasingly expensive and inefficient content investments. The market sees 12% revenue growth, but that's decelerating to 11% next quarter with no explanation beyond hand-waving about comps. The binding constraint is that password sharing is tapped out, core viewing has plateaued at 2% growth, and they're throwing money at structurally inefficient live content that generates 1% of views for 5% of budget. Management's tell: 'We're still just getting started as a company' after 25 years. My view changes if view hours accelerate above 5% or they provide actual Season 2 retention data showing improvement.

The 30-second version

  • The real story: Engagement quality hitting all-time highs while raw view hours barely grow
  • Q3 revenue growth decelerating to 11% FX-neutral from 12%, but management dodging the 'why'
  • They completely stopped disclosing second season performance metrics after defending them
