Bottom line
The sleeper story is China turning from growth engine to margin anchor, with management burying the lede under July order excitement that's mostly delayed project catch-up. The Street sees a beat and raise, but I see a company desperately pulling forward H2 orders into July to justify guidance while hoping nobody notices the 400bp aftermarket mix deterioration and mysterious $14M corporate cost spike. The binding constraint isn't demand, it's pricing power erosion in their largest growth market while they make 'commercial investments' (aka: buying share at negative margins). Vicente's admission that they're 'investing in new technologies in the market' in China despite pricing challenges tells you everything. My view changes if August orders stay double-digit organic without project timing benefits.

The 30-second version

  • China pricing power collapse is the real story, not the headline beat
  • July's 'double digit' order growth masks a one-time catch-up of delayed projects
  • Corporate costs magically jumped $14M YoY with a convenient 'incentive comp true-up' excuse
