Bottom line
The sleeper story: Google's AI infrastructure advantage is evaporating as they're forced to use competitors' capacity while their own TPU monetization slips to 2027. Yes, Cloud grew 82% and hit record margins, but that's unsustainable given the Q3 margin warning and negative free cash flow. The binding constraint is their own infrastructure: they can't build fast enough, can't deliver TPUs fast enough, and are now paying competitors for compute. Most revealing quote: 'vast majority of revenues from TPU agreements will be realized in 2027', translation: the hyperscaler CapEx arms race is crushing near-term returns. My view changes if they demonstrate TPU revenue ramping in Q3 or FCF turns positive without cutting CapEx.

The 30-second version

  • The Sleeper: TPU system sales are ramping WAY slower than the backlog suggests
  • The Obvious: Cloud exploded 82% YoY but it's a sugar high from third-party capacity
  • The Red Flag: They stopped breaking out AI Mode user growth and query metrics
