Bottom line
The sleeper story everyone's missing: Enterprise AI just became Google's primary cloud growth driver, fundamentally shifting what Google Cloud sells from infrastructure to intelligence. The backlog nearly doubling to $462B looks impressive until you realize most converts in 2027, revealing the binding constraint isn't demand but supply chain capacity. Most concerning: management went from confidently saying they 'can monetize billions of queries' to 'testing ads below AI response' - that's a confidence regression disguised as progress. Sundar's most revealing quote: 'Our cloud revenue would have been higher if we were able to meet the demand.' Translation: they're supply-constrained, not demand-constrained. My view changes if they provide specific AI monetization rates or restore absolute user metrics instead of growth percentages.

The 30-second version

  • SLEEPER STORY: Enterprise AI just became Google's primary cloud growth driver for the first time
  • The backlog nearly doubled to $462B but here's the catch: most is 2027 revenue
  • AI monetization language went backwards: from 'can monetize' to 'testing'
