Bottom line
The sleeper story: GEV is quietly becoming a subscription business as their massive gas turbine installation wave (231 units on order, 100+ not commissioned) builds an enormous services annuity for the 2030s. Data centers are the obvious headline, but the real prize is Energy Management Systems getting them inside the fence for the first time. The binding constraint isn't demand - they booked more orders in three weeks of April than all of Q1. It's production capacity, but they've installed 280 new machines and are methodically ramping. Most revealing quote: 'We have 231 units on order right now; over 100 of those have not been commissioned yet. That number is going to grow substantially.' My view changes if framework agreement discussions continue to stall, suggesting customers prefer spot pricing because they think prices will fall, or if the services attach rates disappoint as this new fleet comes online.

The 30-second version

  • Power is becoming a subscription business - services backlog now $87B vs $76B equipment
  • Data center orders exploded 4x in one quarter - but the real prize is inside the fence
  • Wind losses narrowing faster than expected despite Vineyard Wind chaos
